Message from the SCVPA Board

Wow!

The quality of work that comes out of our club just blows me away! You guys did outstanding in our Spring Print Competition! Out of the 26 images that were entered 15 of them scored a Merit Score of 80 or above. We even had a score of 90 and an 86! The 90 puts the image in the Superior grade level, and the 86 in the Excellent level! I’ve been privileged to have scores in both those levels in the PPC and PPA competitions and believe me, the images in this years Print Competition would do well in both those other organizations.
Bob Driver was the big winner this year, winning three First Place Awards, all three Judges Choice Awards and Best of Show! Way to go Bob!
Henri Lajer won two First Place awards, Henri has been working on improving his photography and it is paying off! Congratulations!
The other First Place awards went to Mel Carll, Helen Henry and new club member, Tim Berreth!
We only had four Novice Division entries and AJ Alger received two First Place Awards.
I hope everyone was able to hear the judges comments as those comments are so powerful in helping you improve your photography and image competition entries. If you were not able to attend, Dusty has uploaded videos of the competition on You-Tube and the links are available on the club’s website.
I have to thank Cathy Gero for getting the competition going. She did a great job getting the clubhouse set up, arranging the prints, and making sure everything went smoothly. Cathy Driver did a great job, as always, with the refreshments, I was told that everything went as smooth as a well oiled machine.
I’m sure I’ve missed someone who helped, so again thank you for everything you did to make the competition run as smoothly as it did.      For those of you that don’t know, I was in Iowa visiting my Mother and Father. My Dad recently had a stroke and this was the first opportunity I had to go visit him, so I decided to go.
Our next competition is in August - “Hit me with your best shot.” Visit the club’s website for the rules for that contest. Hopefully, we will have our August judge, Ed Freeman, judge again. I will contact him the first of June and see if we can nail him down for the August meeting.
The rest of the year is already planned and here is what we have coming up:
June - The Photoshop Toolbox - Dusty will demonstrate some of the exercises in the book. July - Lighting - Tim Meyer - We are very fortunate to have Tim return and share his knowledge on lighting.
August - Hit me with Your Best Shot - Ed Freeman judgingSeptember - Sports Photography - John Gelderman, Lancaster Photography AssociationOctober - Digital Image Competition Preparation - Kevin Karzin and Mel Carll, PPC Certified judges share their knowledge on how to prepare your images for competition.
November - Digital Image CompetitionDecember - Christmas Party

That’s it for now, great job on the print competition everyone! Keep up the great work!

Keep Shooting my Friends!!
