Wow! What a great meeting on Tuesday. Dan Holmes was awesome! He shared so much information it was incredible! It was good to see so many of you! And we even had four guests which was great too!
We had eleven of our members share their work. It was wonderful to see so much talent, and great work and participation! Please keep it up and send me any images you’d like to share. I truly believe that as a photography club, we need to show our members our work!
I would really like to hear for each of you about what you’d like to see the club do; which type of workshops, seminars, guest speakers that you’d like to see or do. I am going to offer my living room (which is my home studio) to those members who want to learn lighting, table top photography (still life, product photography etc.). We can meet early Wednesday evening and shoot for an hour then break down! I was talking with a friend of mine who said “Get your lights set up, get everything ready to make photographs, then pick an item, it doesn’t matter what it is. Pick something and photograph it for an hour, not 45 minutes, not an hour and a half. Just an hour and see what you can come up with.” That could be interesting. Another thing we could do is to take three wine bottles, remove the lables, paint one flat black, another matt black and the last one satin black, then photograph the bottles. This is a great way to learn about lighting! If you’d like to do something like that let me know!
Another thing we talked about was just getting out there and making photographs. Take a drive, set your phone alarm to go off every hour, stop your car and spend 5 minutes photographing what ever you find! Drive another hour and do it again, etc. We could meet, drive out to the coast and head north for a few hours then come back and do it again and see what we can get. Again, if any of this sounds like something you’d like to do, please let me know and we’ll do it!
One of our guests asked me if anyone in the club is interested in video, I told him we normally didn’t do video but most of our cameras are very capable of shooting video and maybe that is something we should consider looking in to. I certainly am going to look into that as there are a few things I’d like to try…so give us a month or so to look into that and I’ll let you know what I find. Next month we are going to have a speaker who uses a drone to make photographs. This is going to be very interesting! The drones are getting more affordable and within the reach of just about anyone. But, if you do that, you need to get a pilot’s license and there are several places that will help you through the process. I’ll do more research on that as well. I think if someone is shooting video, a drone is something that you’ll need and will help you in the long run.
Have a great month! Keep shooting and sending me your work!
