Message from the SCVPA Board

As we approach the end of summer we take a moment and celebrate the Labor Day holiday. It’s a great time to head to beach, or spend time with family. Whatever you do, make sure you capture a few images of family and friends. Those pictures will be with you for years to come….

Our September 10th meeting we welcome John Gelderman from the Lancaster Photo Club as he discusses Sports Photography. This should be a great evening of images and discussion as many of our members are currently or have shot various sports at one time or another. Plus what better way to spend a Tuesday evening, than with your friends of SCVPA.

Over the last month we have lots of member accomplishments. First, congrats to Kelvin Pulker for claiming first place in our recent Hit Me with your Best Shot competition judged by the esteemed Ed Freeman. We also give congrats to Bill Boehm for 2nd place and Tim Berreth for 3rd place. But most importantly, we had 11 members participate, which is amazing. It truly is about sharing your images, and there were some amazing images shared…..

Also congrats to Helen Henry as she won the Sweepstakes award and the peoples choice award for her image at the 2019 AV Fair…. Also congrats to Kevin Karzin for receiving 3 merits at the IPC- PPA Image completion and to Mel Carll for receiving 4 merits and the bronze award for his images at the same IPC-PPA image competition.

If you have any images you would like to share with the group, please forward the images to kkarzin@aol.com before Friday 5pm and we will be sure to share at the next meeting.

And if you are looking for a cool place to meet with like minded photographers, then we will see you at our meeting on Tuesday, September 10th starting at 6:45pm at the Sierra Hills Clubhouse………

And last but certainly not least, we continue to send our many prayers and thoughts to Kevin Karzin, and his granddaughter Ivory, as she bravely continues her battle with cancer. She has received several chemo treatments, and is awaiting tests to see if the tumor has reduced enough to have surgery. Once surgery happens, she still has several chemo and radiation treatments. So please keep the Karzin family in your thoughts and prayers…..

I’ll see you in September!

Keep Shooting my Friends!!

Mel Carll Exhibit, The Ground Beneath Me; Not Above Me, So Enjoy Life . . .

Now through December 2nd at the Canyon Country Library. The images in this display were created by Mel Carll who had radiation treatments for his cancer, but did not let that stop him from making art. Through the difficult ordeal, Carll continued to photograph, continued to create art, continued to appreciate nature and to live and love life. This exhibit hopes to remind everyone to stay positive, have a good attitude, and continue to love life.

Ted Dayton

Great article in the Santa Clarita Valley Signal about our member Ted Dayton.
In October, Dayton will have a month-long solo exhibition, “Three Projects: Small, Medium & Large.”  The show will be at The Main, on Main Street in downtown Newhall and will  open Oct. 17.
“I am an artist at heart, a creative person at heart and I have a need to use this craft of photography to create images that are different in some way,” he said. “I also want my work to be interesting to look at.”
