2019 Digital Image Comp

2019 Fall Digital Image Competion

Message from the President

What a night! We held our annual fall Digital Image Competition Tuesday evening, 31 stunning images. First of all I’d like to thank the judges, Robin Swanson, Jim Paliungas and Tim Meyer! You guys were spot on! Awesome comments and suggestions on how to improve the images. If you missed it, you missed a huge learning opportunity! People pay big bucks to learn at workshops and the information that was given out last night was priceless!

The night started out with the Animals category and a stunning image by Mel Carll which was of a dragonfly titled “Ready For My Closeup” and it scored an 85, it was followed a few images later by an image titled “Blue Dragon” by Chris Hoefflin which scored an 87! And the night was on! Chris won the category (and a Judge’s Choice Award) and Tom Spanos won the Novice Division.

Jeff Barlow came away winning the Architecture category in the Masters Division, there were no novice entries.

Kevin Karzin won the Masters Division in the Event & Editorial category and Tom Spanos won the Novice Division.

The Fine Art category went to Henri Lajer with a stunning image titled “The French Horn” it scored a whopping 89 and a Judges Choice Award! There were no novice entries.

The Landscape category was our biggest category of the night and the winning Masters Division entries went to Henri Later and Jeff Barlow who both tied with an score of 81. The top four images were separated by .33 of a point so they were very close. Tom Spanos again won the Novice Division and I think he will graduate to the Masters Division!

Chris Hoefflin won the Masters Division in Macro & Close up and Cathy Gero took first in the Novice Division.

Mel Carll and Cathy Gero took first place in the Nature category with Mel winning the Masters and Cathy the Novice.

Bob Messina was the big winner in the Photojournalism category winning the category with his image “Play At The Plate” which scored an 82.

The big winner of the night belonged to Kevin Karzin with his Portrait entry titled “An Afternoon Stroll.” The image won, First Place, Judges Choice and Best of Show with a score of 90!

Next month we will have our Christmas Party. Again, we will have a pot-luck type of dinner, with a year in review slide show, photo booth and a lot of Holiday cheer. Please sign up on the website so we know how many to expect. Each member is allowed to bring 1 guest. We are also collecting for the SCV Food Pantry so please bring canned or non-perishable goods to the party and we will deliver them.

So awesome job everybody, as I’ve said before and I’ll say again, the work that comes out of our club is among the best in the State! I mean that because I’ve seen the work of other clubs and we rock!

Keep shooting my friends and I’ll see you next month at the Christmas Party!

Now through December 2nd at the Canyon Country Library. The images in this display were created by Mel Carll who had radiation treatments for his cancer, but did not let that stop him from making art. Through the difficult ordeal, Carll continued to photograph, continued to create art, continued to appreciate nature and to live and love life. This exhibit hopes to remind everyone to stay positive, have a good attitude, and continue to love life.
