From the SCVPA Board

Welcome to the New Year

As we start a new year, it is a great time to get reacquainted with your camera and start taking pictures again.  What better way to start than to join your fellow SCVPA friends in Death Valley.  We are talking about a target rich environment (this is subject to the settlement of the government shutdown being resolved as the National Parks are closed and have no facilities available).  So many options, plus several SCVPA mentors to help you with getting some killer images.  If we cancel the Death Valley trip, we will re-schedule for later in March or April.  We will decide on the Death Valley trip no later than January 12th.

We kick off our January 2019 club meeting with Greg Alter and get into Tabletop Photography.  This will be a great evening.  And then to reinforce what we learn, Kevin will conduct a “hands on” Tabletop Photography night during our February meeting.  Tabletop photography is a branch of still life photography that focuses on capturing items that can be placed on a table. The most common photographic subjects of this genre are food photography and product photography. So if you are interested in Tabletop Photography, lighting setup, composition and more January and February are for you….

Our February club excursion will be out to Calico Ghost Town and the Civil War Reenactment.  This again, will be a great opportunity to get some killer images.

If you have any images you would like to share with the group, please forward the images to kkarzin@aol.com and we will be sure to share at the next meeting.

And if you are looking for a cool place to meet with like minded photographers, then we will see you at our meeting on Tuesday, Jan 8th.........

Keep Shooting my Friends!

National Geographic Live!
Meet National Geographic explorers as they share their behind-the-scenes stories straight from the front lines of exploration—illustrated with stunning images and video live onstage.
A Wild Life -  photographer and filmmaker Bertie Gregory:
"I was photographing in a city park in Vancouver, Canada, when a pair of raccoons made their way over to investigate my camera. Shortly after taking this image, the raccoon on the right slobbered snot all over the lens! So after cleaning the front element, the lens cloth went straight in the trash. To hear more about my adventures with urban wildlife, I hope you'll come see my talk, A Wild Life, Friday, January 25: Thousand Oaks, CA."
